The company was formed in 1998 by Owen McGuigan and Martin Simpson, together with Mellanskog Industrie AB. Mellanskog later merged with Assi Domain to form the Setra Group of which M&S (Softwood)Ltd is now a member company. The group comprises forestry owners, sawmills and planing mills located in central and northern Sweden.
The company operates from two warehouses(approx 8000m2) located on the docks in King’s Lynn, and currently employs 20 people.
The core business is to hold stocks of high quality Scandinavian planed goods, and to distribute these nationwide, efficiently and effectively . Our customer base comprises mainly of independent Timber & Builders merchants throughout England & Wales.
The volume stock items are for the most part machined in Sweden by our parent company Setra – length stamped, packaged mainly in 1m3 sets and shipped to King’s Lynn at 4 weekly intervals using a dedicated vessel. All other products, including ‘’specials’’, and primed & treated items are produced in the UK using similar high quality raw material.
The company has over the years built up a reputation for good service and consistent products. An extremely knowledgeable sales force and back-up team, right through to our warehouse staff has helped us maintain our well-earned reputation. In 2002 the company won the TTJ Small Business Award, and in 2003 was runner-up in the same category.
M&S (Softwood) Ltd is both FSC & PEFC Chain Of Custody certified, and has been regularly audited by TRADA to ensure standards are maintained and adhered to.
